Along with Cedar and Yendo, Sony Ericsson brought new member of Xperia family. Named as X8, this phone targets mid-to-low segments with less than EUR200 (US$247) for recommended price. Its size is between X10 mini and X10.
The specs include 3 inch TFT HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touchscreen (single touch) with 16 million color depth fast 600MHz Qualcomm processor, 128MB internal storage with additional storage via microSD™ card (2GB included; up to 16GB supported), a 3.2 megapixel camera with VGA video recording, Wi-Fi 802.11g and HSPA at 7.2Mbps download.
The phone will be available on Q3, and oddly the Sony Ericsson team isn't decided whether the phone will be launched with OS 1.6 then be updated to OS 2.1 later or directly pre-loading OS 2.1. The situation is given because OS 2.1 for Sony Ericsson handsets is not yet ready to pass testing phase and will be ready by late of Q3, while at that time, Google is ready to unveil new version of their OS, codenamed Gingerbread or 2.3.
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 now available in many countries, including in Asia region. The flagship launch was held in Japan, exclusively available for NTT docomo users and created quite big buzz there. The regular price in Indonesia is IDR6,999,000 (around US$776), while in Malaysia, according to @CHIPMY, the X10 price is RM2,799 (US$871). Official Sony Ericsson's account in YouTube for Mobile World Congress (MWC) has released a hands on video about X10 Mini Pro. Although not being taken in high quality video, we can see that the navigation is acceptably fast, the QWERTY keyboard is pretty decent, and the customized UI is quite beautiful. If you don't want to categorized yourself into big screen fans, maybe this mini smartphone will be a perfect companion.
There's also non-keyboard version of X10 mini series as being announced last nite, Barcelona time at MWC10. The difference between X10 and X10 Mini series can be found here. All X10 and X10 Mini series are powered by Android OS 1.6.
Apparently, Sony Ericsson did launched something new at Mobile World Congress 2010, not just showing the three previous handsets announced before. Not just one, but three new gorgeous handsets. Previously we have covered the all series unveiled. This time we describe main differences between X10 and X10 Mini series:
X10 boasts 1GHz processor, X10 Mini series are powered by 600 MHz
X10 has 4 inch display, X10 Mini series is equipped with 2.6 inch
X10 dimension is 119 * 63 * 13 mm, X10 Mini series is 90 * 52 * 17 mm
X10 has 480 x 854 pixels screen resolution (WVGA), X10 mini series has 240 x 320 pixels (QVGA)
X10 is with 8.1 megapixel camera, X10 Mini series are with 5 megapixel camera
X10 doesn't have QWERTY keyboard, only X10 Mini Pro does
The rests are typically quite the same, mainly with HSDPA connectivity and 3.5mm handset jack. Did I also mention Timescape on all X10 and X10 Mini series phones? All those things are powered by Android 1.6 completed with Google Service and Android Market -- not Android 2.1, although they may get updated soon.
X10 Mini series will be available since Q2 on selected markets. So which is your preference?
Just a couple of hours before the MWC 2010 started, Sony Ericsson announced their three new handsets. First up, the Symbian S60 5th edition handset, the Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro. The Vivaz Pro is pretty much the same with the Vivaz, except the Pro version has a QWERTY keyboard. The Vivaz Pro will feature, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, 3.2" with 640x360 resistive touchscreen display, 720 MHz processor, 5MP camera with capability of 720p HD video recording, WebKit web browser, TV out and of course the Symbian S60 5th edition.
Sony Ericsson Vivaz Pro:
The other two new handsets are the little brother of the yet-to-be-launched Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. Both device seems to be the "lite" & "smaller" version of the Xperia X10, in terms of physical presence and also hardware. Both device has pretty much the same hardware specs, the only difference is the Pro version will have a physical QWERTY keyboard. The X10 Mini and Mini Pro will be equipped with a 600 MHz Qualcomm processor, 5MP camera with auto-focus and geo-tagging, 2.55" QVGA touchscreen display, aGPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Android 1.6 with Sony Ericsson Timescape & Mediascape. The X10 Mini will be available in six different colors from Pearl White, Black, Pink, Lime, Red and Silver, while the X10 Mini pro will only be available in Black and Red.

Sony Ericsson X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro commercial video:
Let's put aside the Nexus One hype for awhile and make way for the Sony Ericsson X10. Bigger screen size, fast processor, possibly a better camera, some pretty decent custom Android UI, the Sony Ericsson X10 is one of the most powerful Android phone along with the Nexus One & Motorola Droid and IntoMobile got their video scoop on this monster at CES 2010.
Before making an appearance at CES 2010, there has been a preview about the X10 a couple of months ago. At that time the interface is very choppy, bugs is everywhere, it's pretty much unusable. Sony claims that the software hasn't been optimized yet and promised the interface will have a significant improvement in months to come. Now at CES 2010, Sony got a chance to show us the much more optimized device, and even though I'm still seeing a couple of lag, the device is a lot more usable than the previous one.
The key features of the X10, the Timescape & Mediascape is running very well, a bit choppy at times but the animation does looks good, and after a bit of a tweak here and there, I'm pretty sure the X10 are set to challenge the Nexus One.
At the beginning of the video, there's something like a news ticker, which actually shows you the hardware specification for the X10. There's nothing surprising about it though, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 4" WVGA display, an 8 megapixel camera, but wait.. Android 2.0?? Now that is new, I guess with the launch of Android 2.0 and 2.1 on Motorola Droid & Nexus One, has made Sony take a very good move by upgrading from Android 1.6 to Android 2.0, nice!
While Android hype is mostly covering Google's Nexus One these days, Sony Ericsson is looking to make "Motorola style's comeback" by offering Android for its line up, Xperia X10. The original press release from Sweden-Japan joint venture said that the device will be available in selected markets starting this Q1 2010, but apparently due to this "unexpecting" phone from Google, most likely it will be shifted to Q2.
One operator that confirmed to launch this product is Rogers Canada. It has already created a pre-order page for Xperia X10, but the price itself isn't disclosed yet. I believe Asia Pacific is one targeted market of this device. Xperia X10 is the latest smartphone from Sony Ericsson that's equipped with Android 1.6, 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8 megapixels camera, and OpenGL ES 2.0 support. It will gradually use Android latest version (2.x) soon after.
Sony Ericsson was once a prominent phone vendor for multimedia. But as the trend is shifting to smartphone (and apps), Sony Ericsson was hit by great amount of losses last year. Prior to Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson was hoping to Windows Mobile's Xperia X2, but finally announcing Xperia X10 soon after because of Android's big hype.
We've just discovered the existence of a similar phone with SonyEricsson Xperia X2. It has a sliding QWERTY keyboard form factor complete with a large touch screen. This phone is also packed with Windows Mobile-like operating systems, but apparently this is the native operating system from the phone. The phone is named Venus Xderia X2 which made by Chinese manufacturers. A glimpse of this phone is very similar to the SonyEricsson Xperia X2 mobile phone but the phone stuffed with two SIM card slot, 12-megapixel camera, FM Radio, 3.5 audio jack, java application -- which may or may not match the phone's actual specs. No word on a price just yet, but we're guessing you'll be able to buy anywhere from four to fourteen of these for the price of an actual X2.[via m8cool]
