Bbmiconset

The new version of  BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) apps planned to be released soon with few enhancement and now there is new BlackBerry Messenger v6.0.0.111 thats appears on BlackBerry Beta Zone's page.

This new version to coincide with the launch of the BBM Social Platform SDK that will be coming on July 8th 2011, while we all waiting for the official release we can get this BBM v6.0.0.111 at BlackBerry Beta Zone for user who have access to that site.

What’s New -You won’t see any new features in this version since we’ve focused on fixing a lot of the bugs found in BBM 6 and the BBM Social Platform. We really need developers to update to this version, but we would still like beta testers to test this version from an end user’s perspective to make sure everything’s working fine!

So enjoy this new version! Use BBM as you normally would and leave feedback in the discussion forum if you see anything “funny”. We may follow up with a survey in future to get your feedback on any issues found in this version .

Thanks to everyone who reported any bugs or feature requests for BBM v6.0.0.73. They’ve all been shared with the project team and we’re actively investigating them for future versions of BBM.

Twitter for Android gets a new update, adds a couple of Twitter for iPhone features

2010-11-04_05h14_42

So this just in, after Facebook updates their Android app, Twitter also updates their Android app. The update adds a couple of new features as well making the app looks more polished and faster.

So what new features are we talking about here? If you have used the iPhone version, you'll notice some of its new features is included in the new update. First is the pull down refresh, now you can pull down the timeline to get new tweets, it works great and very intuitive, oh and it also includes the sound effect that you usually heard in the iPhone version.

Second is if you slide one of the tweet to left or right, it will shows you various options like reply, Retweet, favorite, show profile and share tweet. If you tap the Retweet button, it will also ask you if you want to use native retweet or quote retweet. The tweet page details also got updated, its a lot more like the iPhone version now with buttons at the bottom of the page. The only thing that I missed from this update, is there is no 'Jump to Top' feature.

Some of you guys might not like the update by saying this is just make the Android version lost its uniqueness, but I disagree, I was expecting a couple of features from the iPhone version to be "ported" to Android version. While the execution of these new features might not yet as good as the iPhone version, the update showed you that Twitter is trying to bring a consistent design to every official Twitter app on every platform.

Now I'm currently wondering, will the Blackberry version gets an update soon?

Facebook for Android updated with Places & Groups

20101104_042906

Following the Facebook's event today, the company brings a new update to its Android app. The new update includes Places and also Groups along with the new Single Sign On feature. Places was launched earlier this year for the iOS platform. Places is pretty similar to Foursquare or Gowalla which allows you to check-in to interesting places (eg. Restaurants, Movie Theater.) Places is currently only works for selected region, unfortunately it is not available for Indonesia yet.

Groups is another new feature that the version 1.4 has. You can view groups and also its members. It has all the basic functionality including text posts and also photos. Unfortunately, for some reason I couldn't get this working. After I tap the Groups it will keeps on loading, but didn't show me anything.

Notification system is also gets an update for the Android version. Instead of redirecting you to its mobile site after you tap the notification, now it will take you back to the app.

Facebook for Android gets a major update

Facebook-on-android

If you ask me and probably most of Android users about Facebook App, one thing that came into our mind is that the app is inferior compared to the iPhone's or Blackberry's. The interface is ugly and most of its feature is basically a wrapper of its mobile webpage. But not anymore, last night Facebook just released a new update for Android and its awesome.
