TouchWiz UI ported to Nexus One

     

Not only Samsung Android phone that can running the Samsung TouchWiz interface. But Google Nexus One can now be ported and running Samsung TouchWiz UI.

Someone from XDA Developers Forum, which successfully brings TouchWiz UI to Google Nexus One. The good news, there's no need to hack or root access to install TouchWiz at Nexus One. Nexus One owner only need to download the file .APK then install it. TouchWiz UI is also can be ported on Android Froyo and Eclair.

Checking signal strength on your BlackBerry

Wireless network signal is very important when you use a BlackBerry. If it turns out the SOS signal indicator, it means there's no signal around you. Better to just turn off the handset rather than to repeatedly search for the signal and battery to be quickly drain.

There's a good idea to frequently check the network signal strength in your BlackBerry device. Here is the trick: Press the ALT key and press the N - M - L - L. Signal indicators are now turned into numbers. If the signal shows a value outside the range -40 to -100 DBMS, it means a sufficient signal strength is not obtained to access the BlackBerry network.

7 steps to keep your BlackBerry healthy and happy

Your Blackberry device is just like your PC and behaves exactly like it. Storing more and more data on your device can reduce its performance and slow it up considerably. Here is a list of things that you can do to keep your Blackberry device up and running at optimum health.

  1. Delete all Unnecessary Applications: You might have installed more applications than you actually need on your Blackberry device. Your Blackberry would run faster and perform better if you keep only those applications that you actually use.
  2. Delete all Unimportant text and email messages: Having old and unimportant text and email messages on your device can consume too much space and memory. Therefore it is good idea to delete such messages from your device.
  3. Make use of Content Compression to free up space and memory: Your Blackberry comes with a feature called "Content Compression". You can use it to compress all your Blackberry data including messages, contacts, calendar entries, tasks, and memos and free up memory.
  4. Get rid of your multimedia junkies: Multimedia files such as music and video files take up too much space and memory. Therefore it is a good idea to move them to an external memory card such as a micrsoSD card or delete them regularly from your device.
  5. Optimize your Calendar appointment settings: The Blackberry Calendar stores a lot of information such as past appointments, meetings and other events. Therefore it is a good idea to adjust calendar settings to keep only the most up to date data. If your calendar stores important data and you don't want to get rid of, then it is a good idea to backup your data before deleting it.
  6. Clear your Event Log regularly: Just like your PC, the blackberry device keeps log of all events and processes running on it. With time this log can grow considerably in size and take up too much space and memory. Therefore it is good idea to clear your Event Log regularly.
  7. Clear your Browser's Cache regularly: Your Blackberry web browser keeps information of all sites that you visit in its cache. Clearing it regularly can result in better performance.

Optimizing your Blackberry browser

In order to get a more interesting experience while browsing with your BlackBerry device, we can enable the CSS and Table features contained in the browser options. Here are the steps:

1. Press the BlackBerry button (which has a BB logo)
2. Select "Options" from the menu.
3. Select "Browser Configuration"
4. Mark (checklist) the following options;
• Support HTML tables
• Support Javascript
• Use Background and Foreground colors
• Use Background Images
• Support CSS / Style Sheets

For newer Blackberry;
• Style Sheets media type = screen
• Show images = WML & HTML Pages
• Emulation Mode = BlackBerry
• Content Mode = WML & HTML
5. Press the menu / BlackBerry logo button
6. Select "Save Options"

Tips: Check your Blackberry hardware by yourself

Did you know, the BlackBerry device is already installed tools to check the condition of hardware? With these tools, we can test whether the Blackberry hardware to work well. You also do not need to install this tool because RIM's BlackBerry has been included on the device running OS version 4.2 or later.

The tools known as "Device Self Test Application" able to perform testing of a keyboard, trackball, handset audio, audio headsets, bluetooth radio, radio frequency components, GPS and your Blackberry screen. Here are the steps to test the Blackberry device using the Device Self Test Application:

Step 1:
In Blackberry homescreen, click Options > Status. Then type test

Step 2:
On the menu Device Self Test Application, select Start. Next Select the hardware that will be tested. Click Run

Step 3
Next will come out instructions to perform hardware testing. Follow these instructions to find out whether your Blackberries hardware work perfectly.

Note: To view and select the menu, click the trackball

Step 4
Blackberry hardware test results will be recorded in a report. Show menu Device Self Test Application and then select View to display the report.

Basic shortcut for BlackBerry device with SureType keypad

BlackBerry device with a SureType keypad has a different command with the BlackBerry with a QWERTY keypad. The BlackBerry device using SureType keypadare 81xx (Pearl), 82xx (Kickstart) and Coming soon device 9100 (Stratus).

Here is list of basic shortcut for BlackBerry device with SureType keypad, The following shortcuts can be used in many applications:

  • To move the cursor, roll the trackball.
  • To exit a screen or to move to a previous page in a browser, press the Escape key.
  • To move upwards in a screen, press 3.
  • To move downwards in a screen, press 9.
  • To move to the top of a screen, press 1.
  • To move to the bottom of a screen, press 7.
  • To move to the next item, press 6.
  • To move to the previous item, press 4.
  • To move to a list item or menu item, type the first letter of the item.
  • To select or clear a check box, click the trackball.
  • To select adjacent items, hold the Shift key and roll the trackball.
  • To delete a selected item, press the Delete key.
  • To switch applications, hold the Alt key and press the Escape key. Continue holding the Alt key and select an application. Release the Alt key.
  • To return to the Home screen, press the End key.
  • To lock the keyboard, from the Home screen, hold the asterisk ( * ) key.
  • To unlock the keyboard, hold the Send key and press the asterisk ( * ) key. Type your password.
  • To switch between the Default and Vibrate notification profiles, from the Home screen, hold the pound ( # ) key.
  • To turn on a theme or notification profile, select a theme or notification profile, then press the Space key.

Optimizing BlackBerry calendar using "Invite Attendee" feature

With the "Invite Attendee" feature, you can make a schedule on the BlackBerry calendar and invite your friends to follow your appointment that you make. For instances: You will make a birthday party and invite your friends to come, so you'll know if your friend receive or reject your invitation.

1. Open Callendar apps and press Menu
2. Select New and enter your appointment
3. At the top of the screen is the option the email address that you will use to send the invite.
4. Create your own schedule
5. Press the Menu button and select Invite Attendee
6. Enter the e-mail of your friends or you can select from your phonebook.
7. Press Menu and select Save

How to send files from Mac to BlackBerry

For some people, they often find difficulties when they want to send files from their Mac computer to BlackBerry device. Here are tips and tricks for sending files from Mac computer to the BlackBerry device using Bluetooth connection.

1. On Mac, turn on Bluetooth path by going to System Preferences > Bluetooth> ON checkbox

2. On a BlackBerry - turn on Bluetooth by going to Main menu > Manage Connections > select Bluetooth > checkbox until the words "ON" is appear

3. On the BlackBerry device Go To Setup Bluetooth in Manage Connections > select "Allow Another Device to find me" > Click OK and then press the End button (red color button)

4. On the BlackBerry, go to Media Gallery > press the Menu button > select Receive Using Bluetooth

5. On a Mac computer, right-click the file to be send > select More > select Send (filename) to Bluetooth Device  > Select an existing Bluetooth devices > click Send

6. On the BlackBerry, press the Yes button if you have questions > then save the desired file name (optional) > click Save
