Samsung Galaxy S now in Snow White variant

The popular Samsung Galaxy S series now available in Snow White variant. The front cover is still in black color though. Unfortunately it's only available for Korean market. Galaxy S has made record of becoming the fastest selling device in Korea, manage to surpass 800,000 units sold in just 55 days. It's unsurprisingly outperform iPhone 3GS in their homeland.

Android 2.2 is coming to Samsung Galaxy S in September

Samsung-twit-20100730-468

According to Samsung UK Mobile twitter account, they tweeted that the international version of Galaxy S will receive the Android 2.2 update in September. About three days ago, the Galaxy S owners could update their device using the leaked update for Android 2.2. But there are reports saying that the update is still very buggy and unstable. Considering all of those stuffs, I think it is safer to wait for the official release on September.

Hopefully, after the update, Samsung also will fix the occasional lag that I had experienced when I'm playing with the Galaxy S at the ICS a couple of weeks ago. We'll keep you posted about it!

Samsung prepares to sell a MicroUSB to HDMI cable for the Galaxy S

Microusbhdmi

We knew that the new Android-based smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S, is capable of playing an HD quality video either straight from the phone or by using a composite cable then watch it on TV. But Samsung isn't going to stop there, taken from their official website, they're going to sell a cable that converts a video signal thats gone through the MicroUSB cable and then convert it to HDMI for an easy connectivity to your favorite HDTV or HD Monitor.

According to the product page, the cable will cost you around $50.

More photos of Samsung Galaxy S

Here's a few more photos of the Galaxy S from last week's ICS. I mentioned that I couldn't find the Samsung booth but I did spot the Galaxy S at the show. This is a different unit from the one Bayu was looking at as you can see from the baseband and kernel versions as well as the lack of connectivity widgets across the status bar. I didn't get to play with this phone much which is why Bayu's the one with the more complete first look.

While the camera and the screen look pretty impressive, the overall build quality of this phone feels rather cheap and plasticky (perhaps the fact that it's fully clad in plastic actually legitimizes this) but it's seriously light. For a phone that costs over $700 outright (Telkomsel is selling it for Rp 6,499,000, no subsidies), you'd expect it to feel sturdy and tough, but it doesn't feel that way.

Being used to the iPhone with 3.5 inch screen though, holding the 4-inch Galaxy S almost feels like holding a tablet. It's pretty damn big.

When he mentioned that the app drawer resembles the iOS, he wasn't kidding, check it out below.

First Impression: Samsung Galaxy S at ICS

2010-07-17_11
So last week I was at ICS and after a couple of weeks ago I got disappointed by the cancellation of the launched by Telkomsel, I finally got my chance to check out the newest device by Samsung, the Galaxy S.

A brief specification of this device, it sports a 4" Super AMOLED display, 5 MP autofocus camera and the ability to record a 720p video at 30 frame per sec, FM Radio, Android 2.1 + TouchWiz 3.0 UI and of course the 1GHz Hummingbird processor.

Rumor: Samsung Galaxy S 2 is in the works

Samsung-galaxy-s-2

Unwiredview has been reporting that there's a leaked information about the second generation of Samsung Galaxy S device - i9200. The specification of the device is pretty much expected as a successor of the Galaxy S. It will sports a 4.3" of Super AMOLED display with resolutions of 1280x720 pixels, a 2GHz processor along with 1GB of RAM, 8 megapixel camera and accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and ambient light sensors.

This rumor might be too over the top as the pre-rendered image of the device looks very sketchy, but considering that both Motorola and HTC is working on a 2GHz smartphone, I think Sammy doesn't want to be left behind on the race of making the best device with 2GHz processor. If this rumor is true, then expect the device to be released around Q1 of 2011.

Indonesia's Telkomsel opens pre-order for Android's Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung-galaxy-s-preorder

Indonesia's Telkomsel finally unveils pre-order page for those interested to snap the latest Android phone of Samsung family, Samsung Galaxy S. The official launching will be held on June 29, 8 PM at Pacific Place Jakarta. There's no price plan revealed yet, but our coverage told that the recommended price will range IDR 6-7 million (US$666-777 with current rate). The price tag is set at IDR6,499,000 (US$721) with 6 months free 500MB data installment.

Technology community shouldn't be surprised that Telkomsel jumps back again on selling Android. This platform has grown skyrocketing on recent years, while official partner in Indonesia is still only Indosat. Telkomsel used to be the first operator to offer Android with its HTC Magic bundling, but the campaign failed due to lack of Telkomsel commitment on providing all-in support. Their HTC Magic is OHD device, restricted to access Google support, including Marketplace.

No word on whether this Samsung Galaxy S is OHD or GMS device, but I believe Telkomsel won't do the same mistake as they did with HTC Magic. Also, Telkomsel is planning to build its own app store, just like Indosat counterpart, to facilitate local developers and to gain access of paid apps, which is not yet accessible for Indonesian users.

Samsung Galaxy S is the flag carrier of Samsung's Android line up. Powered by Hummingbird processor for GPU, Galaxy S is recognized to have better graphic performance than iPhone 3GS. Again, the further question will be, with such powerful resources, how many sophisticated games have already available in Android platform?

Galaxy S comes with OS2.1 and obviously ready to be upgraded to Froyo (OS2.2) when available.

Update: for unknown reason, we are unable to complete filling the form if we don't provide valid existing Telkomsel mobile number, means it can be associated with our current number and of course you need to have one before entering your pre-order entry. Already being fixed as of now.

Update2: the launching -- that initially set to be this night -- is postponed until further notice, according to its pre-order page

Samsung Galaxy S introduced in Singapore, first in the world

Singapore is chosen as first destination of Android's Samsung Galaxy S in the world. Brought by SingTel, the phone will be available at SG$1098 (US$780) without contract. It will go to SG$0 if consumer opts for two year contract. Pre-order reservation was opened at SingTelShop, but has already been closed. The phone will go on sale starting June 4.

The gadget will be powered with Android OS 2.1 and promised to get OS 2.2 update near soon. The killer value of Samsung Galaxy S is its impressive GPU, first to implement Hummingbird processor. Still, it will be wasted if games line up in Android is not as fascinating as in iPhone.

Surprisingly, CNet's Crave confirmed that Samsung Galaxy S will be brought to SingTel's subsidiary and associates in Australia, Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia. It means the story that Indonesia's Telkomsel will offer Samsung Galaxy S is 100% True!

Anyway, if you live in Singapore, you can be the first to try out Galaxy S for 7 days by becoming social reviewer. Check its Facebook Event page for further information.

"Android war" in Japan: HTC Desire for Softbank, Samsung Galaxy S for DOCOMO

Android-froyo

Following the major success of Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, sold by DOCOMO, Japan operators plan to unveil even more Android phones. HTC Desire (Softbank X-06HT) is set to launch by Softbank Mobile, third largest operator that also offers iPhone, while DOCOMO furthermore will put Samsung Galaxy S (dubbed as DOCOMO GT-I9000) into their line ups. Both phones are powered by OS2.1 and probably will have Froyo (OS2.2) when officially launched on Summer/Autumn.

Although the smartphone market in Japan is still not that big, compared to regular phones, it's definitely growing day by day. After iPhone that shocked local market, last month we witnessed long queue of customers to get Xperia X10. Smartphone sales rank captured by Kei Shimada reveals Xperia X10 tops this list for weeks outscores iPhone 3GS 16GB in 2nd position and the 32GB variant in 4th.

Japan is long known as difficult market to be broken up by foreign vendors. Nokia even gave up selling phone there. Fortunately, Japanese give much love to American OS by letting iPhone and Android to grow bigger every single day. Actually I am looking forward to see Sharp and Panasonic, two largest phone maker in Japanese market, to announce their own Android OS phone.

As a reminder, the Galaxy S will have a 4" WVGA Super AMOLED screen, 1GHz 'Hummingbird' processor, 5MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, 720p video recording support, Bluetooth 3.0 and up to 16GB internal memory.
