Indonesia's Greater Jakarta police unveils Nokia app for traffic control information

Following the official launch of its Twitter account, Greater Jakarta Police Office's Traffic Management Control (TMC) also provides Nokia app which provisions similar Jakarta traffic information in your own phone. Developed by Elasitas, the app has already listed in Ovi Store. Nokia users may download TMC app at http://store.ovi.com/content/32105.

I made small research to figure out which models are supported. Unfortunately, there are only few series in the list, most of them are new line ups, like 6210 Navigator, N96, E71 and newer QWERTY models, N97 and newer touchscreen models. It lefts most of older phones and forced their owners to get back to Twitter service.

Something I notice in Ovi Store, the app screenshot is poorly presented as there's only 192x192 pixels picture available like this one above. How many information can we obtain only looking from that?

Nokia Comes With Music service is now called Ovi Music Unlimited, launch in India

Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia announced that it planned on focusing more on the services that it offered to its users, and now we learn that one of these services has seen a major change. Nokia users living in India will see that the Nokia Comes With Music service is now called Ovi Music Unlimited. It seems Ovi Player got an update to version 2.1

Ovi Player, as you might already know, is the desktop client for the Ovi Music Store. Not entirely sure what this new version brings, but it’s a mandatory update to use it with the new Ovi Music Store. To update your Ovi Player client just start it up and either try to connect to the Ovi Music Store or go to “Check for Updates“. Otherwise you can just download the client from Music.Ovi.com.

When announcing a greater focus on the services it offers to users, Nokia  also pointed towards enhancing the Ovi brand, and the renaming of its offering is something that might have been expected. The company is set to enhance the user experience on its services, and it certainly needs to do so in order to remain competitive on the market. The Ovi Music Unlimited service enables users to download as many songs as they want during their one-year subscription, but they should not forget that “Music can only be downloaded and played on your registered PC and mobile – it cannot be burnt to CD or copied.”

Nokia Ovi Player updated to v2.1

The Nokia Ovi Player or formerly known as the Nokia Media Player, this day has been updated to version 2.1. This new update provides stability and performance over the existing weaknesses in the previous version.

Here are the features available on the new version:

  • We have re-worked music downloads functionality to make it more reliable. You can now pause and restart downloads from the Nokia and Ovi Music stores. Ovi Player will automatically retry any failed downloads and will also preserve uncompleted downloads on application restart.
  • With the latest Nokia Ovi Player you can now automatically import your music library from iTunes and all the manual playlists that you created in iTunes (however, iTunes DRM protected files and smart playlists will not be imported).
  • We have also provided a new 'Play' above the control column headers in detailed view. Simply click this button and containing all the tracks will be added to the Player Queue and played sequentially.
  • There are new tooltips for tracks in the Playlists and Player Queue. These tooltips are visible when Hovering over a track and will show you Artist, Album and Artwork for the track.
  • We've made it easier to select the Music Store for your region (note that you will need a credit card for that region to purchase any tracks) and change the proxy settings. Just hit F4 key and all this pops up in the Options dialogue window.
  • The new version is more robust and efficient memory when compared to the previous version.
  • Finally, we have also made it possible to hide the start-up screen, so you can carry on using other applications without being interfered by the Nokia Ovi Player.

We can download it at music.nokia.com/download or if you previously have had Ovi Player application installed, just go to "Check for Updates".
