The next version of Google Goggles will have a translation feature

We know Google Goggles for Android is a very "promising" app, it allows us to capture a logo then Goggles will use Google search engine to find some related items on the web, and it also works on landmarks too. Google believes that by using Goggles, it will gives people more choice to search for some stuffs via web. Even though the app still need some improvement (eg. a better image recognition), Google seems ready to take Goggles into a higher level. At MWC, Google showed us the next version of Google Goggles and it will involves Google Translate.

With optical character recognition (OCR), the next version of Google Goggles will scan the text that we have captured, and then allows us to select those text before translate them into the desired language. Here's a demo of how Google Goggles translates a German menu into English.

New BlackBerry WebKit browser demoed at MWC10

BlackBerry browser sucks? Yes, but soon will not anymore. After buying Torch Mobile that created IRIS browser -- scored 100/100 on ACID3 test -- RIM finally demoed its WebKit based browser at Mobile World Congress 2010.

The new browser will support HTML5, CSS3, DOM L3, maybe all the advanced things in web world. WebKit is the same engine  that powered Safari and Chrome.

The availability is still in questioned, but since this new technology will also support BlackBerry widgets, I am guessing there will be massive update to BlackBerry OS, a must actually. BlackBerry OS is considered obsolete, compared to faster OS like iPhone OS or Android.

MWC 2010 is definitely a big event for Samsung as they finally made their first Bada handset official. Samsung Wave is finally announced, and the phone itself has pretty much the same feature and specs that we've already covered yesterday. The Wave (S8500) will be the first handset to use the Super AMOLED display with the 800x480 resolution, the other specs are the 1GHz processor, a 5MP camera (seems become more common isn't it?), aGPS, accelerometer, 2GB or 8GB of internal storage, a microSD slot and of course the Bada OS. The Wave is also going to be the first handset to ship with Bluetooth 3.0.
No words on the pricing, but it will be available worldwide starting in April.

The differences between Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and X10 Mini Series

Apparently, Sony Ericsson did launched something new at Mobile World Congress 2010, not just showing the three previous handsets announced before. Not just one, but three new gorgeous handsets. Previously we have covered the all series unveiled. This time we describe main differences between X10 and X10 Mini series:

  1. X10 boasts 1GHz processor, X10 Mini series are powered by 600 MHz
  2. X10 has 4 inch display, X10 Mini series is equipped with 2.6 inch
  3. X10 dimension is 119 * 63 * 13 mm, X10 Mini series is 90 * 52 * 17 mm
  4. X10 has 480 x 854 pixels screen resolution (WVGA), X10 mini series has 240 x 320 pixels (QVGA)
  5. X10 is with 8.1 megapixel camera, X10 Mini series are with 5 megapixel camera
  6. X10 doesn't have QWERTY keyboard, only X10 Mini Pro does

The rests are typically quite the same, mainly with HSDPA connectivity and 3.5mm handset jack. Did I also mention Timescape on all X10 and X10 Mini series phones? All those things are powered by Android 1.6 completed with Google Service and Android Market -- not Android 2.1, although they may get updated soon.

X10 Mini series will be available since Q2 on selected markets. So which is your preference?

The other two new handsets are the little brother of the yet-to-be-launched Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, the X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro. Both device seems to be the "lite" & "smaller" version of the Xperia X10, in terms of physical presence and also hardware. Both device has pretty much the same hardware specs, the only difference is the Pro version will have a physical QWERTY keyboard. The X10 Mini and Mini Pro will be equipped with a 600 MHz Qualcomm processor, 5MP camera with auto-focus and geo-tagging, 2.55" QVGA touchscreen display, aGPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Android 1.6 with Sony Ericsson Timescape & Mediascape. Breaking: Opera Mini for iPhone sneak peek at MWC10, can Opera break the barrier?

As far as I know, Apple has restricted any 3rd party vendor to create similar product for iPhone, if Apple already made one. Included in this category are browser and music player. Well, Opera is going to challenge this by holding exclusive preview and sneak peek of Opera Mini for iPhone at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2010)!

It's quite irrelevant to question whether Opera Mini will be better than native's mobile Safari. What raise more concern to me, when Opera Mini for iPhone finally unveiled for public how will Opera offer the software freely and breaking the barrier to be accepted into Apple's App Store? I am not sure that company as big as Opera will offer its flagship product on Cydia or any other jailbroken software provider. Can Opera offer such Over The Air (OTA) download for iPhone app?

As of now, Opera Mini (and to be combined with its sibling, Opera Mobile) is notably the widely used mobile browser on Earth, from Java-enabled phone to many smartphones platforms, like Symbian, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, and Android.

Update: Opera (from its twitter account) claims that its lab test indicates Opera Mini for iPhone is 6x faster than mobile Safari.
