Motorola Shadow, the next Google Phone?

The picture might be fake, but the Motorola Shadow is pretty much very real. The device looks a lot like the Droid, but on the light side (imagine, Droid is Vader & Shadow is Luke).

What's more interesting is, the Motorola Shadow also said to be the next Google phone in line, could this be the corporate phone that Andy Rubin was talking about? -It got big screen, very thin form factor & a physical keyboard, or this could be just another Android phone - on this case, the light (light not lite) version of the Droid.

Verizon Droid screen lock has a security flaw

Does your Droid using Android OS version 2.0.1? if yes then tough luck, that recent update apparently has a bug that makes it fairly easy to bypass the phone's security-lock screen. Like most of Android based phones, the Droid security-lock mechanism are requires users to input a certain pattern using the displayed dots before they can access the phone's home screen.

The bug is actually pretty simple to exploit. If the Droid has its lock-screen activated, just simply make a phone call to the phone, and when the call came in, press the 'Back' button, and voila! it'll bypass the lock-screen and jumps straight to the homescreen. Even though you can't change or deactivate the pattern from the Settings menu, this however could be very fatal. The person who hacks the phone has every access to all vital informations such as, the owners email account, cookied web pages, phone directory and pretty much everything else stored on the phone.

Mind you though, this only affecting Android version 2.0.1 on the Droid, no words yet about the Milestone. Google already gave us a statements about this problem, and they said:

“We are aware of the issue and we’re working to deliver a fix to Motorola Droids shortly.”

So there you go, Droid users be patient and relax, Google will released an update for this problem very soon. In the mean time, you could download the Lock 2.0 from the market, it's an alternate lock screen for your Android and it works pretty good too :)

Motorola does a BACKFLIP at CES, Android 2.1 is on the way and Flash 10.1 integration for Motorola DROID

motobackfilp

Motorola just announced the Motorola BACKFLIP at CES. My first impression about this thing is.. it's weird. The form factor is really weird, it will have a backwards-folding, outward-facing keyboard, a touchpad on the BACK of the screen. But other than that, the BACKFLIP offers a pretty decent hardware, it's probably going to use the same processor as the CLIQ, which is a 528MHz, 3G Connectivity, Wi-Fi, a 5 megapixel camera and of course the MOTOBLUR UI.

At CES, Motorola also revealed some additional information for current Motorola Android owners:
  • All Motorola Android handsets, including the CLIQ, will received an Android 2.1 update.
  • Remember Flash 10.1 integration on the Nexus One? Motorola is working on it, and its going to be optimized for the DROID's chipset.
  • Motorola DROID will receive a second maintenance update in the near future
Here's a hands-on video of Motorola BACKFLIP,

BB Bold, Moto Droid among highest radiating phones, does anyone care?

Again new study that may trigger another debate whether cellphone's radiation is dangerous enough for consumer in long term or not. A team headed by Dr. Elizabeth Cardis, concludes that there's 18% increase in brain tumor development with long-term cellphone usage. Does anyone care anyway about this study?

While I am still skeptical about these kind of studies, those who does care may need to use a new device called SAR Shield. This thing, which can be attached to a phone, is claimed to reduce harmful radiation waves up to 89%. To be more convincing, SAR Shield is the only FCC-approved device in this area.

Anyway, let's take a look at displayed table about highest and lowest radiating cellphones in term of SAR rating (measured in watts/kg). We can find out that among top 20 highest radiating cellphones, Motorola quite dominates the chart by taking all top 3 list. Among the list also popular devices like BlackBerry Curve 8330, BlackBerry Bold, and Motorola Droid.

In other hand, Samsung is recognized as more green-friendly in term of radiation. In 20 lowest radiating cellphones list, only 4 are not from Samsung. What about our popular iPhone series? Thankfully, not yet in the list. Also among 3 iPhone series, iPhone 3GS has the less amount of radiation.

Again, I doubt these lists will likely change consumerism against popular gadgets.
