Japan's Softbank begins accepting iPhone 4 pre-order today

As one of the earliest country to receive the upcoming Apple's iPhone 4 this June 24, Japan's Softbank -- country's exclusive partner -- opens its pre-order queue today. According to Softbank online shop's announcement, the pre-order will be opened at 5 PM (GMT+9). You can check term and condition of pre-order reservation in this page [Japanese].

As the page is Japanese and image sourced, means harder to be translated with machine, at least the reservation tells that there will be only black version of iPhone 4 that will be available for pre-order customers. Maybe those who can speak Japanese can add more information about the pricing.

"Android war" in Japan: HTC Desire for Softbank, Samsung Galaxy S for DOCOMO

Following the major success of Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, sold by DOCOMO, Japan operators plan to unveil even more Android phones. HTC Desire (Softbank X-06HT) is set to launch by Softbank Mobile, third largest operator that also offers iPhone, while DOCOMO furthermore will put Samsung Galaxy S (dubbed as DOCOMO GT-I9000) into their line ups. Both phones are powered by OS2.1 and probably will have Froyo (OS2.2) when officially launched on Summer/Autumn.

Although the smartphone market in Japan is still not that big, compared to regular phones, it's definitely growing day by day. After iPhone that shocked local market, last month we witnessed long queue of customers to get Xperia X10. Smartphone sales rank captured by Kei Shimada reveals Xperia X10 tops this list for weeks outscores iPhone 3GS 16GB in 2nd position and the 32GB variant in 4th.

Japan is long known as difficult market to be broken up by foreign vendors. Nokia even gave up selling phone there. Fortunately, Japanese give much love to American OS by letting iPhone and Android to grow bigger every single day. Actually I am looking forward to see Sharp and Panasonic, two largest phone maker in Japanese market, to announce their own Android OS phone.

Docomo will officially launch Xperia X10 on April 1

This is the second Android phone to be offered in Japan. The first one is HTC Magic, dubbed as HT-03A, last July. While foreign phones like iPhone or Windows Mobile still struggle to find its niche in Japan savvy market, Docomo tries to prepare more for its Android platform by creating several own apps.
