Indosat to Support Operator Billing on BlackBerry App World

Indosatbbappworld

Research In Motion (RIM) and Indosat today announced an operator billing option for Indosat’s BlackBerry® customers that purchase apps on BlackBerry® App World™.

Operator billing will allow Indosat’s BlackBerry customers to conveniently and securely purchase apps from BlackBerry App World and charge the purchases directly to their Indosat bill. Customers will also be able to charge in-app purchases to their Indosat bill, which allows for the purchase of digital goods, such as additional content or more levels to a game, to be made without interrupting the application experience.

BlackBerry ID, which provides customers with a secure device-independent user identification (ID) for use with BlackBerry App World (and other BlackBerry services), enables this new payment option in addition to allowing customers to seamlessly transfer their personal library of free and purchased apps when they switch to a new BlackBerry® smartphone. Furthermore, BlackBerry ID requires the user to enter their password when making a purchase, providing an added layer of security that can help protect a user from unauthorized purchases in the event their smartphone is lost or stolen.

i-Guard VPL from Indonesia's Indosat to protect your BlackBerry

Capture4_5_0

If you're BlackBerry Indosat subscriber, you'll notice something new in your homescreen this morning after rebooting the handset.

There's orange armor icon, a Virtual Preload (VPL) of i-Guard, implanted to ease you on installing this feature.

i-Guard is SmrtGuard's exclusive implementation, which has already available since last year, for security purposes. In big picture, i-Guard helps you backup data/contacts in Indosat server wirelessly and remote detect/wipe/lock if your BlackBerry were stolen.

This VPL method maybe aimed to increase curiousity among users and awareness about security concern. Hopefully, in the end, it will increase i-Guard subscribers.

There are two packages available for all Indosat users, monthly and weekly, at IDR10,000 and IDR4,000 respectively. If you think security is important then clicking the armor icon (and following every step of installation) will be a wise decision.

For further reading, check http://i-guard.mobi and go to Support section.

Indonesia's Indosat to offer BlackBerry Storm2 this April

Although the market is quite small, it doesn't hinder Indonesia's Indosat from launching the next series of BlackBerry touchscreen, Storm2. Also known as Storm 9520 (9550 for CDMA-GSM version), the handset will be available this April.

In Indonesia, the previous sales of Storm 9500 is not as good as the QWERTY one, as it's only offered by Indosat and Telkomsel. Teguh Prasetya, Indosat's official, said that the idea of providing Storm2 is merely for giving option, especially for their niche segment, not just about sales.

Storm2 is the latest touchscreen handset by RIM. It brings some updates, including the ability to play 3D games, like in iPhone, thanks to new graphic card implanted. Beside Storm2, it is said that Indosat will also bring number of new BlackBerry series into their GSM / CDMA portfolios.

Tri vs Indosat

3ndosat

Spotted this ad placement on Kompas.com the other day. Tri, the Indonesian arm of Hutchison Telecom's 3 had been running a campaign for its brand new BlackBerry service featuring popular singer Agnes Monica touting their rock-bottom pricing. Agnes says, "Anyone who can find a Blackberry service cheaper than mine can be my boyfriend."

Indosat cleverly retaliated by placing one of their own which features someone's pair of eyes looking up directly at  Agnes Monica and a wordplay on Agnes' name. The text says, "I'm not after dating, I want to get married." "Mau menikah" (or colloquially, mo nikah) is Indonesian for "want to get married."

Both ads are animated and unfortunately I haven't got a practical screen capture software, so you'll have to go to the website yourself (warning: ad overload). Props to the team at Indosat for coming up with this gem of an ad.

Some Photos from Mega Bazaar

These photos were taken by @brettmcguire on day one of Mega Bazaar. He compulsively bought himself an HTC Hero at Indosat's booth for Rp 4,999,000 even though he has the Xperia X10 on pre-order. He may or may not follow through with his plan to get the X10 (He probably won't) In the meantime, he's not getting any sleep playing with his new toy.

The newly merged SmartFren mobile telco had a funny way to promote their internet services. They had five people in what can only be described as a full body suit and painted faces racing in slow motion against each other. Except the SmartFren guy was about 10 meters in front while the others were literally falling over themselves trying to catch up. Unfortunately they were still too fast for Brett to take a decent shot of.

Personally, I'm kind of bored with these events. I've been involved as a vendor for six or seven of this and other similar events and they're exhausting (obviously). It's always exceptionally and uncomfortably loud, difficult to navigate after the second day, not enough room to move, finding a parking spot (and trying to leave) is a pain in the ass, there's nothing really new, the workshops are too random and they're merely sideshows. It's just an event to buy stuff with promo bonuses. I like that eStore and iBox are now offering fro-yos and ice creams for their customers though.

By the way, the chick on the left with the FrenDuo shirt looks kind of freaky.
