Google Reader app is now available in Android Market

(download)

Google is finally released the official Android app for Google Reader. The app is pretty much what you can expect from Google, simple and clean UI but packed with features. Along with the basic features like unread counts, friends, sharing and starring, the app also offers a couple of key features such as:

  • Multiple accounts, you can access feeds from your multiple Google reader account.
  • Like the Gmail app, the Google Reader app also offers an auto-sync feature. So every changes that you made on the app (including the settings, eg. Show All feeds,) will be reflected instantly on Google reader website.
  • You can search keyword from your feeds.
  • Send a feed item using any 3rd party app such as, Facebook, Twitter, Email and even add Note in Reader.

For me, the official Google Reader app is one of the best (if not the best) reader app for Android, it has a very clean UI, straight forward app and also packed with features and like any other apps from Google, its free!!

The problem about this app is, it seems that it only available in some selected countries. Countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Latvia and some other, can't seem to see the app in Android Market thus they can't download the app without using Market Enabler app.

If you are among the unlucky users, there are other reader app that you might wanna try such as, NewsRob, Greed and gReader. Or if you wanna try another kind of reader app that is simply unique and beautiful, you can try Slide Reader, Feed Squares, My Taptu and also Pulse.

Opera Mobile for Android will be available within a month

Operamobile-android

So today, Opera announced that they will release the Android version for Opera Mobile within a month. The release will includes two new features. First is the Hardware Acceleration, its basically a feature that will take an advantage of your phone's hardware. With this, Opera claims that navigating a page will be faster than ever, thus will surely improve your browsing experience.

The other feature is the Pinch to Zoom. While this feature isn't exactly new in the realm of next-generations mobile browser, this is actually a good addition for Opera Mobile. Previously Opera stick with the old "One-Tap" button in order to zoom in and zoom out. So the addition of the Pinch to Zoom is a good thing.

The app isn't available yet, but Opera said that the app will be available for all Android devices (I'm guessing all Android version too) to download, from m.opera.com and Android Market next month.

Adobe AIR is now available in Android Market

Air_20080225162906

So after Adobe announced its first beta back in July, AIR is officially makes it debut in Android Market. Even though the app can be downloaded via Android Market, sadly it will only available for device with Android 2.2 (Froyo.) Also, what you need to keep it in mind, that this is not an AIR app, its just a runtime app to.. well, run AIR application.

I don't know if you can install the desktop AIR application, but currently you can download a couple of AIR apps from Android Market such as, Qrossfire, Jacks or Meteor Storm. In the future, we can expect a lot more of Android Applications (especially games) build with AIR. You could check more details about this from Adobe Labs.

Twidroyd 4.0 brings LivePreview™ feature

Screen

If you're using Twidroyd on your Android phone, you'll probably noticed that the app is ready to be updated to version 4.0. The update brings a couple of changes, most notably some UI changes, a new top bar, a 'More' button & the LivePreview™.

Twidroyd 4.0 brings a new top bar which integrates the New Tweet button & Refresh button. This top bar design were probably made to follow the new Android UI design pattern, which we can also see this kind of pattern in Facebook & Twitter app in Android. My only complaint is, the top bar is a bit too small, thus tapping the buttons is sometimes a little bit hard. Some other change is the inclusion of the new 'more' button on the bottom right corner, if you tap this button it will pops up a couple of buttons including Profile, Accounts, Twittersphere, Trends, Settings and also a button to exit the app.

(download)

But surely the main new feature on Twidroyd 4.0 is the LivePreview™. LivePreview™ is a feature that can only work when you put your phone on landscape mode. On this mode, instead of expand the tweet list to cover the whole screen, Twidroyd 4.0 creates a two pane view, left pane is for the tweet list and right pane is to preview the tweet. The great thing about this is, if you select a tweet that has a link on it, Twidroyd will preview the content of the link inside the right pane. You can also filter the tweet list based on the tweets with a link, tweets without a link or simply show all tweets.

Twidroyd 4.0 is already available in Android Market, go get it now!

Facebook for Android gets a major update

Facebook-on-android

If you ask me and probably most of Android users about Facebook App, one thing that came into our mind is that the app is inferior compared to the iPhone's or Blackberry's. The interface is ugly and most of its feature is basically a wrapper of its mobile webpage. But not anymore, last night Facebook just released a new update for Android and its awesome.

Android App Review: Twitter for Android

Cap201005010756

Following their official app for BlackBerry and also the upcoming Twitter for iPhone, Twitter finally launched their official app for Android platform.

Instead buying one of the already established apps on Android platform, they decided to create their own app from scratch and apparently Twitter has been working very close with the Android team from Google to make this app.

Facebook Android App gets Inbox support

Facebookdr-198x300

Any Android users will have to agree that the native client for Facebook is a bit dull, you can't create an event, you can't use Facebook chat and you can't even see your inbox. You will get notified though if there's a new message on your inbox, but if you tap the notification bubble, it will brings you to mobile Facebook via browser. But that ends today, Facebook for Android is finally got a new update, while the update does not include the Facebook chat or managing an Event, the update however, brings the Inbox feature that many users has been wanting.

The Inbox page has three tabs for your new received messages, a new subscription updates and also for the sent messages. You can even compose the message and send it to one or even more of your friends.

Other than the new Inbox feature, I haven't noticed anything different, probably a few bug fixes here and there. Facebook for Android is available for free on Android Market.
