New-image-247x300

As soon as Apple allow to make call using VoIP via 3G on iPhone, fring, immediately open its current VoIP app to be able to make call via 3G network for free. Basically you don't need to do anything if you've already had current fring app.

Previously the solution has been overcame using Wi-Fi network, but as the new regulation applies, you are no longer required to find hotspot in order to make free VoIP call, even video call! The same solution has already implemented for several Nokia users.

fring is a long time player in VoIP business. First they are bound to Nokia and Windows Mobile based phones, but now they are also focusing on iPhone/iPod touch and Android users.

Beside for call/video call via VoIP, fring can also be used for Instant Messaging and Twitter client. You can also use fring to call international number for cheap rate, funded by your Skype account.

Does your Nexus One got 3G problem? Here's how to fix it... well sort of..

So you just got your brand new phone, the Nexus One, it's slick, it feels great in your hand, the screen is awesome, it's fast, but wait.. you get a constant switch between GPRS and 3G? or even no GPRS at all??

Well no worries, we got some workaround on how to.. well.. "fix" it, here's how (you can see the image for these steps from the thumbnail at the end of the post)

Step 1
Go to your phone dialer, and dial *#*#4636#*#*, after you hit the last asterisk, your phone's going into testing mode.

Step 2
Now you're in testing mode, tap on the "Phone Infomation"

Step 3
Scroll to the bottom until you find the "Set preferred network type" label. Now tap to the field that shows you your current network (mine said, WCDMA preferred).

Step 4
Now, change it to "WCDMA Only". This will force your Nexus One to always connected to 3G connection.

I know its a very forceful way to solve the Nexus One 3G problem, but this works very well!

But if you don't like that method, there's some other way though. Peeps from jkOnTheRun got a different rundown,
first you go to the Settings, went to "Wireless & Networks". Tap on the "Mobile Networks" option, next go to "Network Operators" section. After you do this, your Nexus One will search for a compatible GSM networks in the area, and you shall see a couple of choices including a choice to Select Automatically, select that option and your phone should say "Registered on network", and that's it. After you followed these steps, your Nexus One shall not have a problem connecting to the 3G network.

After having a look at both of those "temporary fix", I'm pretty sure there's a problem with the software not on the hardware. If this is proven to be a software issue (which I highly hope so), then we can only expect for Google to release a proper fix for this problem.

Google's "Superphone" The Nexus One have 3G problems?

Four days ago, Google's Android "superphone", the Nexus One has been launched, the web store is up, the order has been coming in and a couple of hours/days later, the phone are shipped to their new owners. It seems everything has gone very well for Google... until... the complaints about one particular "problem" has filled the Google Support Forum.

Since Thursday (7January), the Google Support Forum has been filled with a number of users that have been experiencing some problems with their 3G connection. The main complaint appears to be owners reporting that their device either never switch to 3G, or, it is constantly switching between 3G and EDGE.

There has been various of complaints regarding this issue, take this ex-Blackberry user for example:

“I switched from a Moto Cliq, where I had 3-4 bars of 3G in my house constantly, to a Nexus One. I now either get 1 or no bars of 3G. I made sure that always use 2G was disabled, and I can’t seem to figure out what the problem is.”

Some users have also contacted T-Mobile, but they have no clue about the 3G issue, and were told that it's HTC's problem, then after they contacted HTC.. surprise surprise, they have no clue either! A lot of N1 users are convinced that this is the N1 problem, either it's the hardware or the software. But some are also convinced that this is T-Mobile's problem, since there hasn't been any reports on the forum from any other region (UK, Singapore & HK).

So it's T-Mobile's fault eh? not really, another user reported that he also has a G1 which also using T-Mobile connection (picture shown above), and guess what.. the G1 has 3G! while the N1 only got EDGE!

Now I don't know who's fault is this, it could be T-Mobile, HTC or even Google, but It is not nice that users are being pushed between T-Mobile and HTC. Google VP of Engineering, Andy Rubin also admit that the support problem needs to be addressed very quickly..

“we have to get better at customer service.”

So are you a Nexus One owner? do you have the same 3G problem? Let us know if you are experiencing a loss of 3G on your Nexus One.
