Sony: Android 2.1 is coming to Xperia X10 by the end of September

So according to Sony Ericsson's UK Twitter account, the Xperia X10 phones, including the X10 Mini & X10 Mini Pro, will be getting an upgrade to Android 2.1 by the end of September. As we already know, despite being the hottest phone in Sony Ericsson's line up this year, the X10 is a bit 'late' when it comes to its Android version. While most of the newer Android's phones (eg. Samsung Galaxy S) are already running Android 2.1 and above, the X10 is still running Android 1.6.
If this is true, then this is a great news to all X10 owners out there, finally their phone are getting an update. Sure it's not Android 2.2 aka Froyo, but hey, 2.1 is still a lot better than 1.6. I'm just curious if Sony Ericsson's are going to make some changes or even add some new features on its already awesome custom UI.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8: budget Android phone

Along with Cedar and Yendo, Sony Ericsson brought new member of Xperia family. Named as X8, this phone targets mid-to-low segments with less than EUR200 (US$247) for recommended price. Its size is between X10 mini and X10.

The specs include 3 inch TFT HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touchscreen (single touch) with 16 million color depth fast 600MHz Qualcomm processor, 128MB internal storage with additional storage via microSD™ card (2GB included; up to 16GB supported), a 3.2 megapixel camera with VGA video recording, Wi-Fi 802.11g and HSPA at 7.2Mbps download.

The phone will be available on Q3, and oddly the Sony Ericsson team isn't decided whether the phone will be launched with OS 1.6 then be updated to OS 2.1 later or directly pre-loading OS 2.1. The situation is given because OS 2.1 for Sony Ericsson handsets is not yet ready to pass testing phase and will be ready by late of Q3, while at that time, Google is ready to unveil new version of their OS, codenamed Gingerbread or 2.3.

In the meantime, take a look at this official video from Sony Ericsson's Developer World.

Sony Ericsson Jolie: a Win Phone 7 phone

Seems like more as leaked than rumor, Sony Ericsson is set to join Windows Phone 7 bandwagon by creating a phone codenamed Jolie. The known specs of Jolie are 1GHz (or more) processor, sliding keyboard, and 4 inch capacitive touchscreen, similar to X10, but with multitouch support.

The announcement date should be trailed with Windows Phone's official launch (and its phone line ups) by end of the year.

Another new Android product Walkman phone that has similar X10 looks of Sony Ericsson. This time, it will be collaborated with Sony Ericsson's own flag, Walkman. The codename is Yendo and se-nse said it will be announced soon. Seems also equipped with MediaScape and TimeScape, this move shifts Sony Ericsson paradigm from multimedia phone to smartphone with "advanced" multimedia capability. There are abundant choice of colors too. The size may similar to what have been implemented to Xperia X10 mini. No further information available for now.

Update: Okay, verified not to be powered by Android, Yendo is basically Walkman phone which its UI pretty similar with MediaScape version of its Android siblings. The real Android phone in yesterday's launching is Xperia X8.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 with multitouch.. NOT!

We previously caught rumor that there will be update for Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to support multitouch when X10 finally got OS 2.1 update in September. Apparently this news is basically just rumor since Sony Ericsson North America, via its twitter account, encounter this issue by stating that Xperia X10 will NOT support multitouch. Multitouch is still not a core feature in X10. This should be a disappointing news for X10 fans.

Multitouch feature is sort of issue in United States since Apple has been granted several patents regarding these. Thankfully it won't be a dispute in the rest of the world.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 to receive an update on September, adds multi-touch capability

According to mobiles.co.uk, on the second half of 2010, probably around September, the X10 will have a very 'big' update and guess what... it will also include the multi-touch capability. This is really surprising, especially the multi-touch capability. Previously, we already know that the X10 will never support the multi-touch due to hardware related issue, but if the news is true, then the X10 is only having a software related issue. My bet is, on September, the X10 will eventually receive the Android 2.1 (which will allows the multi-touch) update its been longing for, but the real question is, will it receive the Android 2.1 OR will it receive the newer Android update? assuming that Google has released their newest Android update, Froyo. We'll just have to wait and see..

Zylo and Spiro: again, music phones from Sony Ericsson

While I am not into music phone anymore, seems like this market is still potential globally, at least that's what Sony Ericsson thought. Claimed to be sold more than 130 million units since 2005 (that's roughly 10 years), Sony Ericsson once again tried to combine its expertise in multimedia section with Walkman brand and built-in social networking capabilities.

Zylo and Spiro, both are entry level, christened to be next succession of iconic Walkman label. These two phones will be available on Q3 in selected countries with affordable prices. Zylo introduces the ability to play FLAC compression, while still able to maintain connecting with friends in Facebook and Twitter. Spiro, in other hand, is least attractive compared to its sibling, but of course the price will be cheaper. Should be a good choice to meet youngsters' needs on their daily activities.

Take a look at these videos below for more comprehensive thought on what these phones capable of:
